It starts out with a simple interface, counting up candies and allowing the player to eat them, and quickly expands into a well designed and complex game with a wide range of elements.CandyCandy is the main resource of the game and starts out by gathering automatically at a rate of 1 per second. The player initially has the option of eating the candy, but is soon offered to throw the candy on the ground. Eventually, the player is required to use the candy in a wide range of situations, and it is generally considered the currency of the game. Once enough candy has been collected, more gameplay options are made available.QuestingOnce the sword has been purchased, the player can choose to go on "an epic quest" to collect resources. The quest screen consists of a drop down box that allows the player to select the location in which they would like to quest. Once a location has been selected, the player and location appear on screen in ASCII format and the player's symbol moves to the right, fighting any enemies that are in the way. RPGA Dark Room creates a roguelike experience within the incremental genre. It starts the game as a very simplistic interface, providing a single button to progress, but quickly integrates multiple resources, building construction, equipment, and more. It is available in both browser and iOS.ResourcesThere are a wide range of resources that become available to the player as the game progresses. Notably, wood quickly becomes the most important, as it is required to keep the fire burning and to construct buildings. Other resources that come into player later on include meat for curing (which can then be used to keep the player fed during expeditions), leather, and steel.BuildingsHuts are just the first building that become available, and will allow the player to receive population to help support the player's campsite. People that have moved into huts can be assigned jobs, from gathering wood to mining for coal. These jobs all produce resources, while some will also consume them. Raw meat, for example, will be consumed when producing cured meat.EquipmentThe player will be given the option of crafting equipment. There is a long list of items available to make, but they include weapons, armor, bags to carry more goods when on an expeditions, water reservoirs to carry more water, and more. These become vital to the progression of the player late game.Alternatively, some items can be found while out on expeditions. Swords, guns, bullets, and more can be found from either felled enemies or hidden caches.ExpeditionOnce the player has received a compass, they will be able to go out on an expedition. While out, the player must maintain enough food and water to ensure that they don't die. Water is consumed once ever step, while cured meat is consumed once every 4.The player may randomly encounter enemies while outside the safety of the camp. As the player progresses further and further away, the enemies become stronger and faster, meaning that the player must ensure that they have enough skill to defend themselves. This will generally consist of arming themselves with better weapons (such as rifles).Houses, caves, mines, and more can be found while out. If the player clears a location of enemies and reaches the end, they will generally be rewarded with a cache of items. This can include meat, but may also hold rarer items such as steel swords or grenades. Once the location has been cleared, it may be turned into a safehouse. Once a safehouse has been established, it will populate with a random amount of cured meat for the player to collect while out travelling. A safehouse can only be visited once per trip and will automatically replenish the player's water supplies.Roads will be made from the safehouse back to the camp. While on roads, the player will not be attacked at all.

It's a seemingly simple design that provides a lasting game experience with a detailed prestige system to enable it to be replayed.MechanicsSeveral mechanics are at play here, most notably the affect of buildings buying buildings. This system takes the first layer of buildings, referred to as "Tier 1", and allows them to be created automatically by the second, "Tier 2". These are in turn created automatically by the third "Tier 3" and so on. The first tier of buildings are the ones that actually affect the game, income per click, income per second, and tick time, where the higher tiers simply increase the number of the lower tiers owned at any one time.Upgrades can be bought to further improve the impact of these buildings, meaning more per second by a predefined amount. Other upgrades include the automation of clicks and the power of manual clicks.It should be noted that there are two resources: money and proofs. Proofs can be used to drastically improve income (by a much larger amount than money buildings) but take much longer to afford. They will, however, eventually break through. Goblins can be manually killed by clicking them early game. The wall can be upgraded as the game progresses to increase the amount of damage it can handle.Mages provide an automated system to take care of defenses. They automatically attack goblins as they approach and can be purchased in high numbers. They reside within the wall to keep them safe as they attack from a distance.Bear traps prevent the goblins from approaching at all. They are timed, providing a short amount of protection.WorkersThere are a number of workers available to purchase, and each provides an automatic income of gold. They quickly become more and more expensive, making the later ones more efficient for their cost.In addition, there are workers that provide other effects. The mage, as above, kills goblins as they approach, while the craftsman ensure that any damage to the walls are mended.

Civ Builder, ClickerSettlement is the first game developed by S. J. Vellenga. It is an attempt to bring the classic RTS (Real-Time Strategy) genre into the clicking world by allowing players to control resource production through micro management, settlement management and expansion, trade, and eventually, combat.The game has since been abandoned to make way for a PHP based multiplayer version of the game, allowing for playing anywhere and player interaction including combat and trade. The original game is still available, but it will no longer be updated.DevelopmentDevelopment started in early 2014, with the first prototype being released around May of the same year. It was intended for early alpha testers only, and was received fairly well. After a fair amount of feedback, the game was overhauled, providing a new interface for players to interact with, and a better gaming experience. The previous split list system, providing a separated list of workers and buildings, was scrapped in favor of the new combined list system.The project was again overhauled several months later to provide yet another change in the way users interacted with the game. The combined list was adjusted yet again, allowing for buildings to be stacked. Buildings could then be upgraded from an earlier level to the next tier, saving both space and time searching for these upgrades. The trade system was introduced around this time, allowing for players to expand from their settlements and find new locations with richer resources and trade between them.MechanicsThe game revolves mostly around the production of resources. Early resources, such as logs, can then be processed further into planks, which can be used to produce more complex buildings. Some resources, such as coal, tin and copper, can be combined to create complex resources like bronze. As the game progresses, the list grows longer.Ages take a major role in determining the current place in the game. There are currently nine ages accessible, ranging from nomads to space age, though more are planned. Each age will unlock a number of new resources, workers, buildings, and more.Settlement locations provide a way of limiting the number of resources a player actively has access to. Some resources, such as food, stone, and logs, are available in every location (as they are vital to progression), while others, such as iron or uranium, are strictly limited by location. Furthermore, resources can have low or high production rates, giving the player the choice of taking a smaller deposit in favor of convenience.FutureThe future of the game is bright, with the developer actively working on new content and updates. It has been announced that new features including disease and disasters are on their way, and will be implemented as an optional gameplay element, meaning that each new game can be tailored to suit the experience of the player. Further additions, such as automated trade, a NG+ (new game plus) system, combat, and more, have also been announced, but a release window for these have not yet been published.
